Can WALMART Fishing Rods Catch Big Fish?

Can cheap Walmart rods catch big game fish? We answer that question in this episode where Chris and I purchase a Shakespeare gx2 combo and try our luck on the kayaks with some nice redfish and black drum. I think you will even be surprised by what this $44 combo can do, I was shocked. Checkout my kayak:

  • Me and my dad still have a 19 year old Shakespeare and it still works and we are even able catch big cats and carps. We recently upgraded to another Shakespeare Tiger and it does deliver, it’s very reliable and strong. And we still use the 19 year old Shakespeare and it still doesn’t break on us.

  • Hi, Great channel ! I’m a
mom helping son, we plan to get the GX2 with reel. He will be fishing in Lake Wateree SC. Mainly bass and catfish. Can you recommend what type of line to buy for the reel and best hooks? There are so many choices makes me dizzy. We love watching your videos, how to tie knots is super helpful! Appreciate your time 😉

  • Josh tries out new combo ! ( ya fish and French fries ! ) ha, I don't think that rod and reel set up is that bad , if you buy some cheap China made crap well ya , I go to goodwill and you can't believe the stuff people get rid of and I pick up at a really great price , would like to see ya take that combo set up and go arm ressel some big stuff in the big water ! Make it a challenge on biggest fish with Chris , Tight lines & good times , uncle Dave from St Pete 4/19/20

  • Hello Josh, another great vid. I hope you might get some time on this reel and see how long it lasts. I am always looking to add a rod/reel to my collection. Best Chris

  • Hey Capt. Joshua, You get a good workout with your feet and legs, why shouldn't you get one with your arms? Throw in the fish for dinner and you have a complete health day. Beats going to the gym! IF you want to prove a point, break (or try to) the rod. If not I think it would be nice if you took it to a place to shore fish and give it to a kid that has crud for a rod. You have proven it catches nice fish. Just a thought. Take care and Be Well guys! 🎣👍👍👍

  • I’ve caught plenty of decent fish (snapper, redfish, flounder) on my $25 Okuma rod I bought close to thirty years ago.

  • Shakespeare might be cheap but without the $30 Shakespeare baitcasting rod I bought many years ago and have since retired, I probably wouldn't be a fisherman today.

  • No need for a brake test, it's been a million times on YouTube. The rod is tough.

  • Purchased 2 Skeet Reese spinner bait casting rods. One for $9.88 which was a price error and the cashier was too lazy to check. And I found one in the clearance isle for 16.00 bucks. I love them!! Thank you Wally World

  • Wow I'm surprised you don't know of these…and their Big Water Rods are incredibly stronger as well. JC on Rad Reeling caught a massive Grouper using a 6000 Penn Pursuit II with a Big Water Ugly Stick…I'm a fan of these as well. I dont get tired using them…but maybe is that I have big guns.😂👊
